Rationale

Why a 1:1 Program?

All young people need to develop knowledge, understanding and skills in the discriminating, ethical, innovative, creative and enterprising use of a range of technologies and the processes through which they can create, design, develop and produce innovative technological solutions.

Today’s students, the “digital natives” see technology as part of their everyday environment. To fully meet their needs, technology should be persuasive- always available. In a 1:1 learning environment, each student has access to an Apple MacBook Pro to use at school and at home, enabling communication and collaboration among peers and teachers and connecting parents to their children’s learning.

Magdalene Catholic College is a technology-rich school, which integrates technology into all aspects of learning and teaching. We believe that students at Magdalene should be equipped to deal with the digital world in which we live.

To achieve this, Magdalene Catholic High School operates a 1:1 program for all students. This is a compulsory program and is a condition of enrolment.

The adoption of the 1:1 Apple MacBook Pro program at Magdalene Catholic College has extended the learning environment from the physical constraints of the classroom to give our students the capability to collaborate, share information and experiences, work across disciplines and take control of their learning. Students and teachers, now have access to a range of new tools which assist in making learning richer and more engaging.

The year  7-12 BYODD learning program requires each student have access to an Apple Macbook/Macbook Pro computer to use at school and at home, enabling communication and collaboration among peers and teachers. Students will also have 24/7 access to resources and learning support materials.
